Haplogroup E1a2 is linked to many of the Malagasy

A more recent expansion around 1,500 years ago brought seafaring people from southeastern Asia across the entirety of the Indian Ocean to Madagascar over 4,000 miles away. Once there, they mixed with settlers who had made a much shorter hop from the east coast of Africa. Despite the nearness of the Malagasy people to Africa, they continue to speak a language that is more closely related to Malay and Indonesian, and carry genetic lineages from southeastern Asia, including haplogroup E.
