The meaning of Wonders

English (Northumberland and Durham): perhaps a nickname from Middle English wonders, wondres ‘marvellous, wondrous’, a derivative of wonder ‘marvel, unusual event’ (Old English wundor), or, alternatively, possibly a variant of Scottish Wanders, which Black tentatively derives from a Scottish local pronunciation of Guinevere, the name of King Arthur’s queen, who according to local Angus legend was buried in the parish of Alyth.
