In 2000, it ranked 12,929 in terms of prevalence, and by 2010, it dropped slightly to 13,203, a decrease of 2.12%. However, the actual count of people with the surname increased by 6.24%, from 2,179 in 2000 to 2,315 in 2010. This suggests that while the name became less common relative to other surnames, more individuals carried the name in 2010 than in 2000. The proportion of people named Virgin per 100,000 also decreased by 3.7%.
