The meaning of Triche
1. Altered form, under the French influence in LA, of German Trischl, a variant of Drischel, itself probably a derivative of Driesch, a topographic name from Middle Low German drēsch, drīsch ‘uncultivated land serving as pasture’, for someone who lived near such field. The surname Triche is also found among African Americans. In Germany, the original surname is today very rare (in both possible forms, Trischl and Trischel). Compare Trichel. 2. In some cases possibly also French: from Old French triche ‘trickery, deception’, or, written Triché, from the past participle of tricher ‘to trick or deceive’. Both surnames, which are very rare in France, may have denoted a cheat or a cunning, deceitful person. History: The progenitor of the majority of the American Triches was Adam Trischl from Germany, who arrived, along with his family, to LA in 1722. Descendants of Adam Trischl’s son Charles use the surname Triche, while descendants of another son Henri use the surnames Trichel or Trichell. Some characteristic forenames: French Clovis, Roch.
