Turning to the ethnic identity associated with the surname Thiam, there were noticeable shifts between 2000 and 2010 as per the Decennial U.S. Census data. The percentage of individuals identifying as Black who bore the surname increased from 87.65% to 92.51%, a growth of about 5.54%. There was a decrease, however, in those identifying as Asian/Pacific Islander and those reporting two or more races. The former group dropped by roughly 44%, from 3.24% to 1.82%, while the latter decreased substantially by about 62%, falling from 6.48% to 2.46%.
