The number of individuals with the Tamang surname in the U.S. also rose from 128 in 2000 to 1,105 in 2010, a surge of more than 763%. Consequently, the proportion of people named Tamang per 100,000 population increased from 0.05 to 0.37 during this period, experiencing a 640% growth rate.

Race and Ethnicity of people with the last name Tamang

When it comes to ethnic identity, the Decennial U.S. Census data reveals some interesting shifts within the Tamang community between 2000 and 2010. The largest group identifying as Asian/Pacific Islander expanded from 78.91% to 91.49%, representing a 15.94% increase. Meanwhile, those claiming two or more races decreased from 10.16% to 4.89%, a drop of 51.87%. Similarly, the percentage of Tamangs identifying as white fell sharply by 67.85% from 7.03% to 2.26%. Individuals identifying as Black within the Tamang community also reduced drastically from 3.91% to 0.72%, marking an 81.59% decline.
