1. English: in Hertfordshire, and possibly elsewhere also, from Searancke, the Anglicized name of a Flemish family who had settled in Essendon by 1545 and became brewers in Hatfield. The Flemish name may be habitational from that of the town in Liège province, Belgium, called Seraing in French, for which no Dutch name appears to be current. See also 2 below. 2. Variant of Sirrine, a surname of reportedly different Flemish origin than the name in 1 above.
