History: This surname (see 2 above) is listed in the (US) National Huguenot Society’s register of qualified Huguenot ancestors (along with its very rare variant Sasin) and also in the similar register of the Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin. The Huguenot ancestor was François Sassin from France, who arrived in North America in 1700 aboard Mary Ann and settled in Manakin, VA, where he married c.1705. His descendants reportedly bear only an altered form of the surname, Sasseen.
