1. German: from a Germanized pet form of any of various Slavic personal names based on Old Slavic radъ ‘merry, glad’ (see Rada 1, compare Radak). 2. Americanized form of Serbian and Croatian Radak. History: The progenitor of many of the American Radacks was Ephraim Radack, a German from Alt Danzig in the Russian Empire (today Karlivka in Ukraine), a settlement founded by the colonists from Danzig in Prussia (today Gdansk in Poland). He and his family immigrated to SD in the 1870s.
