History: The original name of the Printz or Prince family of the Shenandoah Valley was Brentz. This family originated from Baden-Württemberg in southwestern Germany. Records from Page County, VA, show that the surname developed from Brentz to Prentz and eventually to Printz. One of the early bearers was Johann Philipp Brentz (born 1709 in Germany and died in 1794 in Shenandoah County, VA).
