In large part, Petsche is a Gottscheerish (i.e. Gottschee German) surname, originating from the Kočevsko region in Lower Carniola, Slovenia (see Kocevar), and may alternatively derive from a Germanized form of Slovenian pečar ‘stove-maker’ (see Pecar).
