The meaning of Peachey

1. Americanized form of Swiss German Bütschi (see Butsch), via the intermediate form Bitsche. This surname is most common in PA. Compare Beachy, Beechy, and Peachy. 2. English: variant of Peach. History: This (see 1 above) is the name of a Swiss Mennonite (Amish) family, in the US also spelled Beachy, Beachey, Beechy, and Peachy. The family is most numerous in PA and in parts of OH and IN. Its progenitor was Peter Bitsche who came to North America from Switzerland in 1767 and settled in PA. The original Swiss German form of his surname was Bütschi (it originates from Bern canton where it is still most frequent), whereas Bitsche is otherwise an Austrian surname, apparently taken to Switzerland only in recent times.
