The meaning of Nikitas
Greek: 1. from the personal name Nikitas, classical Greek Nikētas, a derivative of nikān ‘to conquer’. This name was popular among early Christians as an allusion to Christ’s victory over death, and was borne by several saints, including a 4th-century converted Ostrogoth and a 5th-century missionary to Dacia. Both have a more active cult in the Orthodox Church than the Roman Catholic. 2. possibly also a shortened form of any of patronymics derived from the personal name Nikitas (see 1 above), e.g. Nikitakis.
