Altered form of northern French Mesurolle or of its variant Meserolle, which is most likely a variant or an altered form of Mézerolles, a habitational name from Mézerolles, a place in Somme. The surnames Meserolle and Mézerolles are no longer found in France. History: The Meseroles trace their origin to Jean Mesurolle or Meserolle from Picardy, France, who arrived with his Flemish wife Je(a)nne Carten and a “sucking child” in New Amsterdam in New Netherland (now New York City, NY) in 1663. He died in present-day Brooklyn in 1695.
