History: In North America, this surname (see 1 above) developed from a secondary surname or dit (‘also called’) name, borne by Jean Louismet dit Laiguille (or Louismet-Laiguille), a soldier from Dunkerque in Nord, France, who married Marie-Catherine Marquet dit Périgord in Quebec City, QC, in 1757.
