Polish and German (from Poland): derivative of Polish kluk, kluka ‘hook, something hooked, curved’ (see Kluk) or verb klukać ‘to cluck, to cackle’. Alternatively, it can be an unflattering nickname of Lithuanian origin (from Lithuanian klukius ‘foolish man’, or possibly from kliukis ‘chatterer, blabberer’), since the biggest concentration of this rare surname occurs in Lidzbark Warmiński County of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in northern Poland.
