Irish: the Norman surname (see 1 above) is also common in Ireland, where it has been Gaelicized as Haicéid. It has also sometimes been adopted as an Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Eachaidh (see Caughey, McGaffey). History: A family of this name (see 3 above) were established in Ireland by William de Haket, who was granted land in Tipperary by King John in the early 13th century.
