Japanese: written 藤谷 ‘wisteria valley’. A samurai family of the Mito clan in Hitachi (now Ibaraki prefecture) bore the name, but it is a common placename. Mostly found in western Japan, but in eastern Japan it is pronounced Fujiya. It is sometimes written 富士谷 phonetically.
