The Huguenot ancestor was Pierre du Toit from Switzerland, who is also listed in the similar register of the Huguenot Society of America (as Peter du Tois). He was one of the French Huguenot settlers of Manakin, VA, in the early 1700s, and as such he is also recognized by the Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin. His two daughters married into the Porter and Lucadou families (see Lucado), while his only son left no descendants. — Later there were also other Dutoit immigrants, most notably the Swiss immigrant Charles-Eugène-Louis-Gabriel Dutoit from Lausanne, who was with his wife and child(ren) in IN by 1819 and died in OH in 1865. — The South African bearers of the surname Du Toit trace their origin to François du Toit, a Huguenot from Lille, France, who arrived with his brother Guillaume in the Dutch Cape Colony via the Netherlands in 1686. François du Toit married Suzanne Seugnet in 1690. He is recognized as a French Huguenot ancestor by the Huguenot Society of South Africa. Some characteristic forenames: French Francois, Monique.
