Altered form of French Dechazeaux, itself a variant of Deschazeaux: topographic name, with fused preposition and definite article des ‘from the’, from a plural derivative of Old French chaseau, from Late Latin casale ‘hut, cottage’, denoting someone from a grouping of houses, i.e. a village as opposed to a farm; or a habitational name for someone from Chazeaux, the name of several places in the southeastern part of France. The surnames Dechazeaux and Deschazeaux are very rare in France.
