History: Pierre de la Chaumette (born 1673) came from Rochechouart in Haute-Vienne, France, via England to Gloucester, NJ, c.1698; in NJ he became known as Peter Delashmet. He was the brother of Jean de la Chaumette (see Shumate). Pierre is listed in the (US) National Huguenot Society’s register of qualified Huguenot ancestors with another altered form of his surname, DeLashmutt, along with its original form (De) la Chaumette, while his brother Jean is listed in the similar register of Huguenot Society of America.
