Czech and Slovak (Čížek), Slovenian (Čižek): from Czech čížek, Slovenian čižek ‘siskin’ (a small songbird similar to the goldfinch), hence a nickname for someone thought to resemble the bird in some way (e.g. for someone who liked to sing), or perhaps a metonymic occupational name for a bird dealer or catcher.
