It was first brought to the US c.1710 by Hans Brubacher, who immigrated from the Palatinate, Germany, and settled in Lancaster County, PA. His ancestors came to the Palatinate from Switzerland, where the surname, originally spelled Bruppacher, originates in the canton of Zurich.
