Americanized form (translation into English) of Flemish Bloetgoet, itself an altered form of Goetbloet: nickname composed of Middle Dutch goet ‘good’ and bloet ‘blood’. The surname Bloetgoet is not found in the Netherlands or Belgium. History: Franz or François Bloetgoet, alias Francis Bloodgood (1635–76) came in 1658 from Amsterdam in the Netherlands to Flushing, Long Island, NY. He was the son of Jan Goetbloet or Bloetgoet from the Dutch province of South Holland.
