The meaning of Baskett
English: 1. from Middle English basket ‘basket’, hence a metonymic occupational name for a basket maker, or perhaps for someone who carried a basket or pannier as part of his work, for example, carrying baskets of stone to a lime kiln. In some cases it appears to have been a topographic or habitational name referring to a house distinguished by the sign of a basket (probably owned by a basket maker). 2. variant of Bascott, a habitational name from Bascote in Warwickshire, probably so named with an unattested Old English personal name Basuca + cot ‘cottage’. 3. possibly from an unrecorded Middle English personal name Basket, which could have been a pet form of Base (see Bass) + the Picard and Flemish double diminutive hypocoristic suffix -ket. Compare Bosket.
