1. Irish: variant of Eade. 2. French: nickname either from the masculine noun aide meaning ‘helper, assistant’, or the feminine one, aide meaning ‘help, assistance’. This surname is very rare in France. History: There was a large family of French Canadians known as Aide dit Créquy, the progenitor of whom came from La Rochelle, France and married in Neuville in 1689; his four sons had produced thirteen children before 1730. Nevertheless this particular family appears to have died out in North America.
